Decisions, Decisions
July 11, 2008 at 9:24 pm | In Bloggy Business | 4 CommentsI drive my husband absolutely crazy when I can notmake a decision, whether it be for supper or for what to wear. So I can easily say that I am glad he is not part of this decision because he would be over the top, frustrated with me. People, I can not make my mind up about what to do with this blog. Do I stay here and upgrade? ($20.00 for 12 months for 5GB- which I ran out of the 3GB (free) in a little less than 6 months. Or do I just completely jump ship, pack up my keyboard and head on over to typepad where they offer unlimited photo albums and I’d be able to customize this ole’ thing more (oh yeah, at a heftier price of $89.50 also includes 5 GB of space) and the price includes up to three blogs.
I am interested in this “extra” blog because then I could possibly use one the showcase my new endeavors of baking and decorating. By the way, I made one this weekend that I would love to show you but can’t!
So anyway, help me out. Tell me, what’s a girl to do?
Early morning, long day
June 30, 2008 at 8:31 pm | In A Day in Our Life, Toddler days | Leave a CommentWell, I am not crazy, the button is gone. I must thank Hiedikins for that piece of information. Now, to decide what to do. It seems that I can upgrade here. Although, I might take a look into some other options. I wanted to keep this free but I guess if I want to continue adding pictures and you all want to keep seeing pictures then I will have to pay up.
Tomorrow morning we will be leaving our house at 5:00 in the morning. This means that I will have to get up at 4:15. Blah… but it is for a good reason. Lucy has an eye doctor appointment in Metairie (near New Orleans) and that is at least a three hour drive (I think). So I am forever grateful that my child let me sleep until 7:30 this morning. Now, if she would just go to bed right now instead of screaming at the top of her lungs from her bedroom I’de be even more grateful!
But back to the eye doctor. When Lucy was about six weeks old we began noticing that her eyes we crossed. Not so badly that we knew something was wrong but definitely noticeable. Our pediatrician at the time told us that we would need to wait until about six months to be sure that they would not straighten on there own. In the meantime, we changed pediatricians and her eyes only became worse. He informed us that her eyes would not straighten on there own and referred us to a pediatric ophthalmologist. The wait to see him ended up being until just about the time that she turned six months old. She was diagnosed with esotropic strabismus. So in May of 2006 we opted to do corrective surgery on my poor little baby’s eyes. All went well. She came out of the anesthesia and surgery fine and by the afternoon of the surgery my little girl was back to her normal self.
After a couple follow up appointments with her eye doctor I felt something that I’d felt from the beginning of our journey with strabismus, he was not the doctor for us. Very egotistic, very short with us and very not my kind of doctor. I hate the fact that he could act like he did to his patients and get away with it because he is the only pediatric eye doctor around. Don’t get me wrong, he did a very good job on her surgery as her new doctor says that most children do not do as well as Lucy has done. But it really gripes me that he can act the way he did.
Long story short, we found a doctor that we love and we have to get up really early in the morning. So, I better get off of this computer and get some rest.
And I almost forgot, my first cake class starts tomorrow! Wish me luck that we’ll make it home in time for me to go!
Who took away my picture adding button?
June 26, 2008 at 7:06 pm | In A Day in Our Life | 1 CommentSo, I came here to put pictures from my Girls Night Out that I attended last Friday night and I can’t. Like the button to add is just gone. This is so not funny.
I might be joining my cousin Meghan over at typepad sooner than I think.
Vacay ‘08
June 16, 2008 at 5:53 pm | In Vacay 08 | 1 CommentSo here it is… the long awaited vacation post. Were should I begin? Oh yes, I guess the beginning would be good.
We pulled out of town at 7:38 on Saturday morning (or that was the time I first checked the clock and remember thinking “hmm, not too bad for getting 10 people awake, dressed, packed and out the door for the planned time 7:30″). I finally relaxed once we got on the road. All the stress of packing and getting everything together had me pretty up tight. We made it to our first stop, Bass Pro Shops , without and ounce of trouble.
Notice in this picture that the guys are the ones pushing the strollers. They weren’t wasting anytime getting in this store!
The store was awesome (I just hate that now my husband knows exactly how close we live to it!). So we loaded up on t-shirts, stolen beer koozies (yes, I am very sorry Bass Pro people, my husband and my daughter put the beer koozies on the handles of the stroller and then just strolled right through the checkout without paying), and other stuff Eric bought that I have no idea what it is or what it is used for. -side note: the stealing would be one of a few out of character things that would take place on this vacation that I am not too proud of (but that is the only one that you will hear about on here from me!).
So back on the road trying to outrun the cops , I asked Eric how long until our next stop which was to be an overnight stay at his aunts home. He unknowingly replied, “Oh we’ll be there in no time”. Figuring he knew what he was talking about, we opted not to order lunch but just drinks and thought we would grab a bite to eat when we stopped in a little while . However, you know that great thing called Karma (damn we should have paid for those koozies), well she showed up and had other plans for that in a little while attitude. Two minutes after we got on the interstate the traffic came to a crawl. Another 120 minutes later (that’s right- two hours), we had only moved FOUR miles! Let me tell you it is not fun when you are in the car with a hungry, annoyed, cranky husband and a two and a half year old who is being sustained on yogurt covered raisins alone and you are all watching (listening to) this for the 100th time. The quick little 3 hour trip that was planned for that day (you know, so the kids wouldn’t have to stay in the car for so long, ha ha) turned into a six hour my butt is hurting can we please get off of the road now ride.
Once we got to Eric’s aunts house the stay was won.der.ful! I swear, we could have just vacationed there!
“Yeah Momma, we finally made it!”
Now, for a mid-morning photo session before we hit the road.
OK Tanner, me and you are gonna take a picture, just sit still right here
Not like that, come back
Hurry Momma, take the picture while I sit here and choke him!
Sunday we got back on the road and had no complications in getting to our final destination!
As we started seeing beach for the first time, I said to Lucy “Look, there is the beach!” she screamed from the backseat, “It snowed!”.
Once we unloaded the vehicles, we went up to our condo and unpacked just enough to get the swimsuits and “somescream” out to head down to the beach. After three months the child could no longer take any talk of the beach, she wanted proof that it actually existed.
Lucy had fun on the beach but I believe that she enjoyed the pool even more. Probably because the pool involved parental interaction whereas the beach involved Momma laying on the beach towel ( hey, a girls gotta work on her tan, right?)
Our second night we went toLuLu’s which I thought was pretty cute because, you know, we have a LuLuand all. I may have went a tad overboard in the gift shop by purchasing a license plate for the front of my car but I have been driving around with nothing for almost a year and they do not make the one I actually want. (If anyone ever finds a Life is Good license plate please pick one up for me and I will reimburse you for your troubles at any cost!)
We had a great time at the restaurant even if we did have to wait two hours to be seated (if you are ever in the area and want to eat there don’t let that deter you, we were waiting for a table of 28!). They make it as cool and comfortable as possible and have plenty of things to do in the meantime. (like pose for pictures with your darling sister-in-law)
Lucy also had a great time dancing on the tables, well not really but pretty darn close. She loved dancing to the live music and also sipping on her “Milk Margarita”.
Dad, why are you trying to get in on my shot? Don’t you know that Mom only takes pictures of me?
Hmmm, decisions decisions
We had a great trip. Short but great. I enjoyed seeing Lucy experience the beach for the first time. I enjoyed seeing Eric get to see ALL of his family. I enjoyed me and Lindsey’s (my sister-in-law) conversation on the balcony until 2:00 in the morning. I enjoyed the Bourbon Slush almost to the point that I think I was scaring some of Eric’s family. I enjoyed watching Eric’s dad walk in to the closet that housed the air conditioning unit in our condo thinking that it was the exit. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) There were lots of laughs and lots of fun. This was a great vacation.
My Dad
June 15, 2008 at 8:19 pm | In A Day in Our Life | 3 CommentsWhen I think back over my childhood, it is so easy for me to remember the love that I received from my Dad. He was my world. He taught me how to ride a bike, even with quite a bit of stomping and whining on my part. He made a special pancake for me to feed to my babydoll each time he would make pancakes. He jumped on the bed with me to this song and I think my mom even knew!
I have to say that my Dad was pretty awesome. When I was 12 years old he got us into kart racing. We spent mostly Sundays doing this but also some longer weekend road trips to Mississippi, Texas and Oklahoma. I had the time of my life racing and was pretty good at it thanks to Daddy.
On the flip side he was also always driving me to cheer at our little junior high football games. He never missed a dance recital (even though I am sure he wished he could have) and when I was older he would come to the basketball games just in time to see me perform and then leave once we were done.
He always made me feel like whatever I was doing was important to him. Whether it be racing or dancing, he was there. I have learned so much from being my father’s daughter. I have learned how to love with my whole heart and how to give the best of what I’ve got to others.A dad is so important in a child’s life. I know that my life now is shaped so much by what he taught me then.
Happy Father’s Day! I love you Daddy!
A little cough syrup may have been consumed before the writing of this
June 10, 2008 at 7:54 pm | In A Day in Our Life, Bake Bake Bake | 1 CommentSo, snot is what has been going on here. Lots and lots of snots. I took Lucy to the doctor on Thursday and he did a chest x-ray and determined that it was viral bronchitis. I can’t be positive, as I did not actually go to the doctor, but I think I came down with it starting on Sunday. I called the office and spoke to the nurse and he called me out cough syrup. Needless to say I’ve been pretty loopy. Lucy is pretty much back to her old self and I am so thankful for that! Because let me tell you I COULD NOT STAND ONE.MORE.MELTDOWN! I know that she did not feel good and that was the reason for the bad attitude but when your husband is busy with work and you are the only one in the house that is there to wipe snot, suction the nose, give dose after dose of medicine and comfort, things start to wear on you a little lot.
In other “non-snot” related news, I’ve got my first real cake gig this weekend (and how lovely of me to mention it in a post where every other word is referring to the mucus membranes of me and my child). I will post pictures of it once it is completed. Until then, a picture of Lucy playing with fondant…
I swear, it was no bigger than the size of a dime when she started playing with it!
I never got around to painting my toes
June 5, 2008 at 3:57 pm | In A Day in Our Life, Toddler days, Vacay 08 | Leave a CommentBut the good news is that I did get everything else done that was on my “To Do List” and we had a wonderful vacation. I have lots of pictures to upload and maybe even some video. I am working on a vacation post. Hopefully I will get that up before our next years vacation.
We got back Tuesday night and Wednesday was my birthday. A quiet birthday but I can’t say that I would have wanted anything more what with all the running we had done. And today was supposed to be my first day back to work until Lucy started with a pretty rough cough yesterday. I decided this morning that I would take a sick day and boy am I glad I did. I took her to the doctor this morning just to make sure that she wasn’t coming down with something and it turns out that she was- bronchitis. Lovely.
I just gave her the first dose of her medicine and about a minute later she began coughing. She looked at me and said, “that medicine isn’t working”. I hate it when she is sick. I know no parent enjoys a sick child but I really do hate it.
Well, I guess I’d better get back to her. She is needing plenty of extra hugs and kisses and I’ve got plenty to hand out!
I should be packing **Updated**
May 30, 2008 at 5:17 am | In A Day in Our Life, Vacay 08 | Leave a CommentIt’s 6:00 in the morning and since I already had my make up on and my hair fixed I figured I’d run here and post and update.
